Playground rules
Short version: make it fun, keep it all-ages, and be kind.
Game rules
- All ages. No gore, adult content, hate, or bullying.
- Your own characters. No real brands or copyrighted characters.
- No ads inside games, no tracking, no crypto mining.
- No outside network calls unless they go to a backend you connected and we approved (a Premium integration). Scores, saves, and achievements go through the Robot Recess SDK.
- Small and quick. A single HTML file or a zip of static files, up to 5 MB (25 MB on Premium), 300 files at most, and it should load in a few seconds.
- Be honest about the tool. Tag what you made it with: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, Copilot, by hand, or other.
What the automated checks do
Every upload is checked for size, file types, and calls to outside servers. Common libraries from cdnjs, jsDelivr, and unpkg, plus Google Fonts, are bundled into your game for you. A failed check sends the game back with a report that says exactly what to fix; a suspicious one goes to an editor for a quick look first.
Games run in a locked-down sandbox on a separate domain, so they can never see players' accounts or cookies.
Fair play
- One review per account per game. Creators cannot review or count plays on their own games.
- New accounts (under 7 days) and logged-out players count for half while judging.
- Do not trade reviews, farm plays, or make extra accounts to boost a game. Editors can remove games that do.
- Upload limits: 10 uploads and 5 new games per day (50 and 20 on Premium).
Chat and the Workshop
Recess Chat is for everyone, so the same all-ages rules apply. There are no private messages. Links only work when they point to Robot Recess, and email addresses are taken out. Keep messages under 500 characters and don't flood the room; new accounts post a little slower at first.
Tag a message Bug or Idea on a game's channel and it lands in that creator's inbox. Report anything that breaks the rules: when 3 players report a message it is hidden until an editor looks. Moderators can hide messages and mute people for a while.
In the Workshop, what you ask Claude to make follows the game rules above, and everything still goes through the automated checks before it is published.
Comments and reports
Keep comments friendly and about the game. Every game has a report button; when 3 players report a game it is pulled for an editor to review. Editors can hide comments and remove games that break these rules.
