Using Robot Recess
- Anyone can play the games. Using the site means you agree to these terms, so please read them (a grown-up can read them with you).
- Accounts are for people 13 and older. If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian should be OK with you joining.
- One account per person. Don’t make extra accounts to boost a game or dodge a ban.
- Keep your password and recovery codes safe. You’re responsible for what happens with your account, including what apps you connect to it (like Claude Code) do as you.
- Pick a username that isn’t your real name and isn’t meant to look like someone else.
The playground rules
Our playground rules are part of these terms. The short version: keep everything all-ages, be kind, no bullying or hate, no sharing your own or anyone else’s personal information, no spam, and no cheating at judging. Games must follow the game rules on that page too, like no ads, no tracking, and no outside network calls except to a backend the creator connected with Premium (a Supabase project is checked automatically and switched on right away; any other backend needs an editor’s approval first).
Your games
You own the games you make. When you publish one, you give Robot Recess permission (a free, worldwide, non-exclusive license) to host it, copy it, run it, and show it to players on Robot Recess and in links to it. That includes showing its title, description and thumbnails in listings, charts, Game of the Week and jams; making the technical changes needed to run it safely (like adding our SDK and copying in the libraries and fonts it uses); and keeping earlier versions. This permission lasts while the game is on Robot Recess.
- You promise you have the right to everything in your game (code, art, music, sounds and names), and that it doesn’t use other people’s characters or brands.
- Follow the terms of the AI tools you used to make it.
- We check every upload, and we decide which stage a game is in (Under Judgment, the Arcade, archived and so on), using the rules on our About page. We can remove games that break the rules.
Reviews, chat and other posts
You own what you write here too. You let us show it on Robot Recess, and share it with the game’s team, including through the “Feedback for my AI” prompt and the connection their AI uses to read feedback. If a game’s creator turns on the Discord bridge, bug reports and ideas from that game’s chat (or every message, if they pick that) are copied to their Discord server.
Keep it honest and friendly. We can hide or remove posts that break the rules.
The Workshop and connected apps
A Workshop is a shared space: everything you post there is visible to its members. You can connect your own Claude (or another AI app) to build games. Your use of Claude is between you and Anthropic, under your own Claude account and plan. Robot Recess doesn’t provide, pay for, or see your AI usage outside Robot Recess.
A connected app acts as you, so you’re responsible for what it does on Robot Recess. Disconnect it any time in Settings.
Things you must not do
- Hack, probe or overload the site, or try to get into accounts that aren’t yours.
- Make games that try to break out of the sandbox, mine crypto, show ads, track players, or collect their information.
- Use bots, scripts or extra accounts to play, vote, review or report.
- Pretend to be someone else, including Robot Recess staff.
- Collect information about other players, or ask them for theirs.
- Sell, rent or share your account.
- Use Robot Recess to break the law or hurt anyone.
What we can do
We work hard to keep Robot Recess running, but we may change, pause or stop features. We can hide or remove content, mute people in chat, and suspend or close accounts that break these terms or the playground rules. You can stop using Robot Recess any time, and ask us to delete your account by emailing hello@robotrecess.com.
Disclaimers
Games here are made by their creators, often with AI. We check them and keep them in a sandbox, but we can’t promise every game works, is accurate, or is free of bugs. Robot Recess is provided “as is”, without promises beyond the ones in these terms. We aren’t responsible for services we don’t run, like a creator’s own backend, Discord, or your AI app.
Limits on our responsibility
As far as the law allows, Robot Recess isn’t responsible for indirect losses (like lost data or lost profits) from using the site, and our total responsibility to you for anything is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the problem, or US$20 if you haven’t paid us anything. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Changes to these terms
When we change these terms, we update this page and the effective date at the top. For big changes, we’ll also put a note on the site before they take effect. If you keep using Robot Recess after that, the new terms apply.
